Mountain Cats Earn Home Sweep Over Fairmont State

Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) had two doubles and four RBIs to lead the Mountain Cats to a 9-6 win in Wednesday's opener against Fairmont State (WV) University at George R. Walter Field. Pitt Johnstown completed the sweep with a 10-1 victory behind Hanley's three-run homerun in the nightcap to improve to 28-15-1.
Pitt Johnstown used a two-run double by Hanley in the bottom of the first inning to open up a 3-0 lead. The Mountain Cats added a run in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning and two more runs in the fifth inning to built the lead to 9-3. Fairmont State scored three runs in the seventh inning to set the final score at 9-6. Hanley finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) had two hits and drove in two runs. Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.), Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) all had two hits. Sophomore left hander Tyler Zaremski (Bethel Park, Pa.) pitched four scoreless innings and surrendered just one hit to improve to 2-2.
The Mountain Cats fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but tied it in the bottom half of the inning, before Hanley belted a three-run homer over the right-center field fence to put Pitt Johnstown up 4-1 after three innings. The Mountain Cats tacked on two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning and went on to the 10-1 win. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI's, while Mangini collected two more hits. DelSignore drove in two runs and scored two runs. Freshman left hander Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) improved to 3-0 after giving up one run on three hits in four innings of work. Shaulis also struck out a career-high eight Fairmont State hitters.
With the losses, the Falcons fell to 11-31 on the season.
The Mountain Cats will celebrate Senior Weekend with a WVIAC four-game series against Seton Hill University on Saturday and Sunday. Along with Senior Day, Sunday will also mark "Community Day". Saturday's doubleheader will start at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's games will start at 1:00 p.m. both doubleheaders will be played at Johnstown's Point Stadium.
