Baseball Clinches WVIAC Northern Division Title With Sweep of Seton Hill on Senior Day

David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) threw a complete-game, four hitter, and Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Mountain Cats to a 10-1 win and the WVIAC Northern Division title in Sunday's Senior Day opener against Seton Hill University at the Point Stadium. In game two, Matt Petrowsky's (Johnstown, Pa.) three-run homerun led Pitt Johnstown's come-from-behind 8-5 win and the sweep of the Griffins. The Mountain Cats, winners of seven straight, are now 32-15-1 and 12-4 in the WVIAC.
Between games of the doubleheader, Pitt Johnstown recognized seniors Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.), Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.), Huey and Plummer.
In game one, Pitt Johnstown built a 3-0 lead in the first inning, before breaking it open with three runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sxth inning en route to the 10-1 win that clinched the WVIAC Northern Division. Huey tossed a complete-game and gave up just one run on four hits to improve to 5-2. Plummer went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. DelSignore, Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) and Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) all had two hits, while Turka and Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) drove in two runs apiece.
In Sunday's nightcap, the Mountain Cats trailed 4-2 until Petrowsky belted a three-run homerun over the left field screen to give Pitt Johnstown a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning. Two batters later, Hanley hit an opposite field solo homerun. Pitt Johnstown added two more runs in the sixth inning to set the final score at 8-5. Freshman Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, and DelSignore went 2-for-2 with a triple an RBI and three runs scored. Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) picked-up the win after giving up four runs on three hits in five innings-pitched. Fleck, who improved to 5-2, also fanned four. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched two scoreless innings to earn his eight save of the year. Faint didn't allow a hit and struck out four.
With the losses, the Griffins fell to 21-22 overall and 8-8 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
Pitt Johnstown will break for Finals Week, before travel to Ohio Valley (WV) University on Friday and Saturday.
