Baseball Splits With Mansfield on Spring Trip

The Mountain Cat baseball team continued its spring trip in Fort Pierce, FL with a 5-1 win and a 9-8 loss to Mansfiled University, Sunday Morning. Pitt-Johnstown, 6-2 on the year, won the opener 5-1, but suffered a 9-8 loss in the nightcap. Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) belted a garnd slam in the game-two loss.
In game one, Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) added a pair of hits. Hanley, Josh Campanella (Allison, Park, Pa.), and Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) all drove in one run. Right-hander Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) improved to 2-0 after giving up one unearned run on five hits in five innings of work. Watkins also walked on and fanned one. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) tossed the final two innings to earn his second save of the year. Faint surrendered one hit, no runs and struck out two.
In game two, Hanley had two hits in four at-bats, including a grnd slam. Mangini, Matt Petrowksy (Johnstown, Pa.) and Bill Wasko (Bethel Park, Pa.) had an RBI each. Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) pitched five-plus innings, and gave up five earned runs on nine hits. Fleck also struck out three.
The Mountain Cats continue their spring trip in Fort Pierce, FL with a doubleheader against Penn State-Beaver on Monday at 8:45 a.m.
