Mountain Cats Split Pair of Extra Inning Games at Charleston

03/23/2006

After nearly two weeks off due to the weather, Head Coach Todd Wiliams and the Mountain Cat baseball team finally got back on the field and came away with a doubleheader split that saw both games go eight innings at the University of Charleston (WV) on Thursday. Pitt Johnstown took game one, 8-7, before dropping the nightcap, 4-3. The Mountain Cats are now 10-5 on the season.
In game one, sophomore second baseman Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Mountain Cats to the 8-7 win. Junior outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) added two hits, including a triple. Sophomore right hander Zach Toth (Sarver, Pa.) improved to 3-0 after scattering just three hits in four innings of relief.
In game two, Pitt Johnstown was unable to manufacture a run with runners on first and third in the top of the eighth inning and suffered a 4-3 loss when Charleston scored the game-winner in the bottom on the inning. Freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) banged out two hits, while senior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.), sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) and junior outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) each drove in one run for the Mountain Cats.
The Mountain Cats travel to Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series.
