Baseball Sweeps Salem International 5-3 and 15-1

The Mountain Cat baseball team improved to 12-2 with a 5-3 and 15-1 sweep at Salem International (WV) University, Saturday afternoon. In game one, Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) had two hits and drove in two runs. Pitt-Johnstown completed the sweep behind Ben Watkins' (Johnstown, Pa.) one hitter in six innings of work.
In the opener, Mangini went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) belted a solo homerun. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) added a RBI. Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) gave up three runs (one earned run) on three hits in 5.1 innings to improve to 3-1. Fleck also fanned six. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched a perfect seventh inning to collect his third save of the season.
In game two, Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.) went 3-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI. Petrowsky chipped in three hits, including two doubles and two RBI, while Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) had three doubles. Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) was 3-for-5 with a double. Watkins surrendered just one hit in six scoreless innings to raise his record to 2-0. Watkins also struck out seven.
The Mountain Cats will host doubleheaders against Salem International on Sunday and Clarion University on Wednesday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium.
