Mountain Cats Sweep Two More From Salem Int'l.

The Mountain Cat baseball team made it two sweeps in as many days over Salem International (WV) University and improved to 14-2 with 5-1 and 9-1 wins Sunday at the Point Stadium. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) collected two hits at the plate and struck out six on mound in the opener, while Tyler Zaremski (Bethel Park, Pa.) tossed four scoreless in the game two victory.
Pitt-Johnstown kicked-off the home-and-home series by sweeping the Tigers 5-3 and 15-1 in Salem, WV on Saturday.
In the opener, Josh Campanella (Allison, Park, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits and two RBI, while Staub added two hits and an RBI. On the mound, Staub improved to 2-0 after giving up just one run on three hits in six innings-pitched. Staub also fanned six.
In the nightcap, Zaremski surrendered one hit and struck out three in four scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.), Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and Petrowsky all had two hits and drove in two runs, while Eddie Soritokis (Bedford, Pa.) and Campanella each had two RBI.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a doubleheader against Clarion University on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium, before opening the 2009 WVIAC schedule with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Seton Hill University.
