Baseball Splits Again at WVIAC Rival Seton Hill

Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) collected five hits and seven RBI to help the Mountain Cat baseball split another WVIAC doubleheader at Seton Hill University on Sunday. Pitt-Johnstown, 17-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, suffered a 4-3 loss in game one, but rebounded with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Hanley went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) hit his second solo homerun in as many days. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) took the loss and fell to 2-1 after giving up four runs (3 earned runs) in 5.2 innings of work. Staub also walked one and struck out one.
In game two, Hanley added a pair of doubles, a triple and five more RBI to lead Pitt-Johnstown to the 8-6 win. Staub was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and one RBI, while Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) chipped in two hits, including a double and and RBI. Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.) earned the win in relief of starter Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.). Jewart pitched two innings and surrendered two runs on four hits to even his record at 1-1. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) tossed the final 1.1 innings and didn't allow a run to earn his fourth save of the season. Moore got the start and gave up four runs on four hits in 3.2 innings.
With the split, Seton Hill is now 10-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Mountain Cats host a non-conference doubleheader against Bluefield State (WV) College on Wedensday at noon at Johnstown's Point Stadium. Pitt-Johnstown will then host a four-game WVIAC series against Shepherd (WV) University on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
