Pitt Johnstown Splits Doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan

Senior third baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) belted a two-run homerun to lead Pitt Johnstown to a 3-2 win at West Virginia Wesleyan College in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday. However, West Vrirginia Wesleyan rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap to earn the doubleheader split. The Mountain Cats are now 13-8.
Long finished 2-for-3 with his eighth homer of the season and all of three of Pitt Johnstown's RBI's in the opener, while junior outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) added a pair of hits. Senior right hander Brian Chruscial (Irwin, Pa.) tossed a complete-game to improve to 2-1. Chruscial gave up just two earned runs, struckout four and scattered five hits in seven innings of work.
In game two, the Mountain Cats took a 6-3 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. West Virginia rallied for four runs, including a three-run walk-off homerun to deal Pitt Johnstown the loss. Junior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI's. Plummer added three more hits, and freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) collected a pair of hits in the loss.
With the split, West Virginia Wesleyan is now 7-11 on the season.
The Mountain Cats travel to Salem International (WV) University on Thursday and to Farimont State (WV) University on Saturday, before hosting Fairmont State for the 2006 home opener on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at George R. Walter Field.
