Men's Soccer Rolls, 7-0, Over Lancaster Bible to Open Season

Head Coach Eric Kinsey's (7th Season) Mountain Cat soccer team opened the 2006 season with an impressive, 7-0, victory over Lancaster Bible College Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic. Junior forward Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.) and freshman sophomore forward Arik Misler (Johnstown, Pa.) each tallied two goals in the win.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the match on Hawkins' first goal of the day. Sophomore Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal five minutes later, before Hawkins added his second goal at 29:11 in the first half. The Mountain Cats increased the lead to 4-0 at halftime when Misler scored off an assist from senior midfielder James Penn (Irwin, Pa.) at 44:30. Pitt-Johnstown continued its dominance with three more goals in the second half. Misler scored again 15 minutes into the second half, prior to sophmore midfielders Vince Spillane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Brad Walker (Leechburg, Pa.) finding the back of the net to set the final score at 7-0.
Along with their goals, Swope and Spillane also collected two assists apiece, while sophomore Shane Hejmanowski (Dillsburg, Pa.) chipped in three assists for the Mountain Cats.
Mountain Cat freshman goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced just one shot and didn't have to make a save in 61 minutes-played to earn his first collegiate victory. Fellow freshman goalkeetper Bob Suskie (Carlisle, Pa.) faced three shots and made three saves in 29 minutes of action.
Pitt-Johnstown, which outshot Lancaster Bible 24-1 in the first half, finished the match with a 40-4 advantage in shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Detweiler made 18 saves, but surrendered six goals and suffered the loss for the Chargers, now 0-1-0 to start the year.
The Mountain Cats will wrap-up the Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic on Monday when they take on Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 p.m.
