Mountain Cats Fall at Home To WV Wesleyan

West Virginia Wesleyan College opened up a 1-0 halftime lead, before adding two more second half goals en route to a 3-0 WVIAC victory over the Mountain Cat soccer team, Sunday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Mountain Cats dropped to 5-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the WVIAC.
Brett Fackenthal took Michael Scruggs' cross and beat Mountain Cat goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) in the 34th minute to put West Virginia Wesleyan up 1-0 at halftime.
Scruggs increased the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 84th minute, before Joe Johns capped the scoring with another unassisted in the final minute of play.
Neff took the loss and fell to 4-8-1 after giving up three goals and making five saves. Ryan McDougall earned the shutout in goal for West Virginia Wesleyan. McDougal faced 12 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made four saves.
With the win, West Virginia Wesleyan raised its record to 6-6-2 overall and 4-3-0 in league play.
The Mountain Cats travel to Davis & Elkins (WV) College for a conference match on Wednesday, before returning home to host a WVIAC match against Ohio Valley (WV) University and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown soccer field.
