Mountain Cat Soccer Rolls Over West Virginia Tech, 11-0

Senior midfielder John Kotchey (Gibsonia, Pa.) scored a hat trick and sophomore forward Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) tallied two goals to lead the Pitt Johnstown soccer team to an 11-0 home victory over West Virginia Tech, Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Eric Kinsey's team improved to 5-4-1 on the season.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Swope gave Pitt Johnstown a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals at 6:31 and 20:36, before the Mountain Cats added goals by Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.), Kotchey and Steve Fertig (Natrona Heights, Pa.) over the next 25 minutes.
Pitt Johnstown kept rolling in the second half. Kotchey gave the Mountain Cats a 6-0 lead with his second goal at 47:47. Sophomore Shane Hejmanowski (Dillsburg, Pa.) and junior Alex Gatti (Indiana, Pa.) scored at 68:36 and 70:00, before Kotchey completed his hat trick at 81:20. Freshman forward Even Henry (Belle Vernon, Pa.) scored his first collegiate goal at 81:52, and freshman defender Joe Cronan (Indiana, Pa.) finished the scoring with a goal at 84:15.
Along with their goals, Hawkins and Hejmanowski also had an assist each, while Phil Belcastro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected three assists and Josh Godish (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a pair of assists.
Freshmen goalkeepers Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and Bob Suskie (Carlisle, Pa.) combined for the shutout. Neff earned the victory and improved to 4-4-1 after playing the first half. Suskie made three second half saves to share the shutout.
With the loss, West Virginia Tech fell to 1-5-0.
The Mountain Cats host Geneva College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., before traveling to Salem International (WV) University on Saturday.
