Brett Fackenthal scored goals early in each half to lead top-seeded West Virginia College to a 3-0 victory over the #5-seeded Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team in Thursday night's WVIAC Semifinal match in Buckhannon, WV. The Mountain Cats, who reached the conference semifinals for the second straight year, finished the season with a 10-9-1 overall record.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Brett Fackenthal opened the scoring off of Joe Johns' corner kick at the 7:07 mark of the first half. Fackenthal increased the lead to 2-0 just :52 into the second half when he beat a pair of Mountain Cat defenders and found the back of the net behind Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.). The Bobcats set the final score at 3-0 when Fackethal set up Diego Michelato's goal with a throughball in the 70th minute.
Neff faced 18 shots and made six saves, but suffered the loss and fell to 9-9-1. George Rowley saw eight Mountain Cat shots and made five saves to secure the shutout and help the Bobcats advance to Saturday's WVIAC Championship match.
West Virginia Wesleyan, now 11-7-2 on the season, will take Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, who defeated Davis & Elkins (WV) College 2-1 for the 2008 WVIAC title.
