Men's Soccer Defeats Salem International, 1-0

10/01/2008

The Mountain Cat soccer team held a 39-0 advantage in shots and had 18 shots on-net, Wednesday afternoon at Salem International (WV) University, but managed only one goal. However, Andy Griffin's (Dillsburg, Pa.) header into the back of the net off of a corner kick was all the Mountain Cats would need in a 1-0 victory over the Tigers. Pitt-Johnstown, which has posted three consecutive shutout victories, improved to 6-5-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the WVIAC.
Griffin took Jason Swope's (Indiana, Pa.) corner kick in the 53rd minute and beat Salem International goalkeeper Leonardo Pillemont for the game-winner.
Mountain Cat goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) didn't have to face a shot in 90 minutes of action to record his third straight shutout and improve to 6-5-0. Pillemont made 17 saves but suffered the loss for the Tigers.
With the loss, Salem International remained winless and fell to 0-6-0 overall and 0-6-0 in conference play.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Waynesburg University for a non-conference match on Saturday, before returning home to host WVIAC foe Seton Hill University on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
