Men's Soccer Opens Season With 7-0 Win Over Pitt Greensburg

Senior forward Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.) scored a first half hat trick to lead Head Coach Eric Kinsey's (8th season) Mountain Cat soccer team to a lopsided, 7-0, win over Pitt Greensburg in Saturday's opening round of the 2007 Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic.
Hawkins (five shots, four shots on-goal) tallied a pair of goals, including one off of a penalty kick, in the first 30 minutes of the match, before completing the hat trick in the 43rd mintue to help the Mountain Cats build a 4-0 halftime lead. Freshman J.P. Schantz (Nazareth, Pa.) tallied his first career goal and assist, while Arik Misler (Johnstown, Pa.), freshman Kyle Kiralfy (Lancaster, Pa.) and Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) each added goals in the victory. Swope, who had nine shots and six shots on-goal, also had an assist to help lead a Pitt Johnstown attack that featured 30 shots and 18 shots on-goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced just six shots and made two saves to improve to 1-0-0. Pitt Greensburg goalkeeper Mike Mooney suffered the loss after giving up four goals in the first half. Mooney made six saves and faced 15 shots.
The 2007 Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic continues on Sunday when Pitt Greensburg takes on Columbia Union (MD) College at noon, and on Monday when Pitt Johnstown plays Columbia Union, also at noon.
