09/25/2007

Pitt Johnstown junior forward Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) scored a pair of goals, including one on a breakaway in the 90th minute to lead Head Coach Eric Kinsey's men's soccer team to a 3-2 win at the University of Charleston (WV), Tuesday night. Pitt Johnstown improved to 6-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Senior defender Alex Gatti (Indiana, Pa.) got the Mountain Cats on the scoreboard in the 13th minute off of an assist from Joe Cronan (Indiana, Pa.), before Swope scored his first goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 45th minute to put Pitt Johnstown up 2-0. Charleston rallied to tie the score with goals in the 63rd and 86th minutes, but Swope sealed the victory and ended Pitt Johnstown's two-match skid with his breakaway goal as the clock was running out.
Mountain Cat sophomore goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced 10 shots and made two saves to improve to 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown outshot the Golden Eagles 13-10 and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on-goal.
With the loss, Charleston dropped to 0-10-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats return home to host Westminster College in a non-conference match on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. as part of Pitt Johnstown's 80th Anniversary Celebration and the Inauguration of its fifth president, Dr. Jem Spectar.
