Mountain Cat Soccer Defeats Salem International, 3-2

10/03/2007

Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cat soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with three second half goals in a 3-2 home win over WVIAC rival Salem International (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon. Chris Hawkins' (Scottdale, Pa.) goal off of a back flick in the 80th minute proved to be the game-winner to help Pitt Johnstown to its third straight win.
Salem International took a 1-0 halftime lead on Milos Milic's goal in the 40th minute, but the Mountain Cats clawed back with three consecutive goals in the second half. Shane Hejmanowski (Dillsburg, Pa.) and Arik Misler (Johnstown, Pa.) set up Jason Swope's (Indiana, Pa.) goal off of a deflection in the 57th minute, before Misler added a goal of his own off of Swope's assist in the 65th minute to put Pitt Johnstown up, 2-1. Fifteen minutes laster, Hawkins found the back of the net with the game-winner in the 80th minute off of Misler's second assist of the match. The Tigers cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal in the 83rd minute, but that was as close as they would get, as the Mountain Cats held on for the victory.
Mountain Cat goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced 13 shots and made three saves to improve to 7-2-0, while Leonardo Silva faced 13 shots and made four saves for Salem International in the loss.
Pitt Johnstown improved to 8-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the WVIAC. The Tigers dropped to 3-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play.
The Mountain Cats will host a WVIAC conference match against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before traveling to Seton Hill University for another conference match on Tuesday.
