Women's Soccer Defeats Point Park, 5-1, in Kick-Off Classic

Head Coach Crystal Dye's women's soccer team made a 2-0-0 start to the 2006 season on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Point Park University in the Second Round of the Pitt-Johnstown Women's Kick-Off Classic. Freshman midfielder Krysten Medzie (Clearfield, Pa.) had two goals and an assist, and senior forward Kellie Stevens (Davidsville, Pa.) added a pair of goals to lead Pitt-Johnstown.
Pitt-Johnstown jumped on Point Park for four first half goals, including two by Medzie. Stevens scored her first goal in the 28th minute, before freshman midfielder Lindsay Plowman (Apollo, Pa.) scored Pitt-Johnstown's fourth goal of the first half at 40:25.
Point Park got on the scoreboard on Melissa Redman's goal at 59:34, but Stevens tallied her second goal of the game at 68:30 and set the final at 5-1. Sophomore Alyssa McKinney (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshmen Emily Babik (St. Mary's, Pa.), Chrissy Burnsworth (McKeesport, Pa.) and Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) had one assist apiece.
Pitt-Johnstown junior goalkeeper Anna Yarnall (Allentown, Pa.) made seven saves and gave up just one goal to improve to 2-0-0.
Point Park is now 0-2-0 on the season.
Pitt-Johnstown will host Seton Hill University on Thursday and Potomac State (WV) College on Saturday. Both home matches will kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
