Women's Soccer Ends Season with 12-3-1 Record After 4-1 Win at Franciscan

10/27/2006

Pitt Johnstown freshman forward Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in a 4-1 win at Franciscan (OH) University in Friday's 2006 season finale. With the victory, Head Coach Crystal Dye's team finished the year with a 12-3-1 overall record in just the second year of the Pitt Johnstown women's soccer program's existence.
Pitt Johnstown took a 1-0 halftime lead on freshman midfielder Krysten Medzie's (Clearfield, Pa.) penalty kick at 20:07. Franciscan tied the score early in the second half, but it was all Pitt Johnstown the rest of the way. Zack scored her first goal of the day off of an assist from Medzie to put Pitt Johnstown in the lead for good in the 75th minute. Six minutes later, freshman midfielder Mary Comerford (Greensburg, Pa.) took a cross from Medzie and found the back of the net in the 82nd minute, before Zack finished the scoring off of Comerford's assist at 87:00. Medzie ended the day with a goal and a pair of assists, while Comerford had a goal and an assist in the victory.
With her two goals, Zack wrapped up the season as Pitt Johnstown's team leader in points (53) and goals (22), while Medzie was second in points (34) and third in goals (12). Senior forward Kellie Stevens (Davidsville, Pa.) was the team's second leading goal scorer with 14.
Once again, Pitt Johnstown junior goalkeeper Anna Yarnall (Allentown, Pa.), who played every minute this season, got the job done. Yarnall faced four shots on goal and made three saves to improve to 12-3-1.
With the loss, Franciscan dropped to 11-2-1 on the year.
