Lady Cat Soccer Falls to Concord in Overtime

Alyssa Hesian's penalty kick goal in the ninth minute of overtime gave Concord (WV) University a 1-0 victory over the Lady Cat soccer team, Saturday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) made nine saves, but it wasn't enough, and the Lady Cats fell to 1-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the WVIAC.
After two full halves of scoreless soccer, Pitt-Johnstown was called for a foul in the box nine minutes into overtime to give Concord the penalty kick. Hesian took the kick and beat Der Vanik inside the right post to give the Mountain Lions the 1-0 win.
Der Vanik faced 23 shots and made nine saves, but gave up the game-winner in overtime to fall to 1-5-0. Kacey Hildebrand earned the shutout in goal for Concord after seeing 20 Lady Cat shots and making nine saves.
With the win, Concord improved to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
The Lady Cats wrap-up a four-match homestand againt Saint Vincent College for Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Wednesday at 4 p.m., before traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a WVIAC match on Saturday.
