Catcher Paul Pentz Named First Team All-WVIAC; Chuck Boring Second Team, Bill Colosimo Honorable Mention

05/04/2007

Pitt Johnstown senior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) became the first Mountain Cat baseball player to be selected a First Team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) when this year's teams were released on Thursday. Sophomore right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) was a Second Team choice, while senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) was an Honorable Mention All-conference selection. Voting for the 2007 All-WVIAC was done by the leagues 15 head coaches.
Pentz wrapped up the 2007 season with a .360 batting average (36-100). Pentz, a two-time ESPN the Magazine First Team All-District II selection, hit a pair of homeruns and drove in 21 runs. He also scored 22 runs and had six doubles and two triples.
Boring posted a 5-2 record in nine appearances. Boring, who ranks sixth in NCAA Division II in Strikeouts Per Nine Innings at 12.0, paced the Mountain Cats with 51 strikeouts in 38.1 innings-pitched. Boring also earned one save.
Colosimo finished second on the team in hitting at .403 (48-119) and third in both runs batted-in (26) and hits (48). His .403 batting average currently ranks 97th in the country. Colosimo also belted three homeruns and five doubles.
Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cats finished the 2007 season with a 20-18 overall record. Pitt Johnstown also finished second in the WVIAC Southern Division with a 12-5 conference record.
West Virginia State University's Josh Miller was named the WVIAC Player and Hitter of the Year, while teammate Michael Barron was tabbed the Pitcher of the Year. Veteran West Liberty State (WV) College coach Bo McConnaugh was honored by his peers as the league's Coach of the Year.
Miller, a senior outfielder, ranks among the national top twenty in several statistical categories. His .451 batting average stands 12th nationally and his 14 home runs is good for 19th in Division II. Miller also ranks 7th nationally in slugging percentage at .850.
Barron has compiled an unbeaten 7-0 record to date with a 4.10 earned run average. Opponents are only batting .204 versus the Cross Lanes, WV sophomore and he has fanned 50 batters in 48.1 innings pitched. The ex-Nitro HS player was named the WVIAC Pitcher of the Week on April 16 following a shutout of divisional rival Pitt Johnstown.
McConnaughy is the WVIAC Coach of the Year for a fifth time after leading West Liberty to the Northern Division championship. The Toppers improved from a 10-12 fifth place divisional finish in 2006 to a 15-2 mark in 2007. The 24th year head coach owns an overall record of 528-491 at the helm of the West Liberty State program after this season's 21-20 regular season ledger.
