#13 Wrestlers Bounce Back With Two Wins at Regional Duals

In Friday's opener, No. 2-ranked Newberry (S.C.) College battled back from a 13-6 deficit midway through the match with pins in the final two bouts to defeat Pitt-Johnstown, 25-16. Fogle got the Mountain Cats off and running with a 10-1 major decision over Travis Laxton at 125 lbs., and Ryan Link (133 lbs.) followed with a 5-1 win over Matt Oliver to give Pitt-Johnstown a 7-0 lead. Newberry cut it to one with two straight decisions. In a battle of nationally-ranked wrestlers, the Wolves got on the scoreboard with a victory at 141 lbs. Sixth-ranked B.J. Young defeated second-ranked Bachman, 13-8, to made it 7-6 when No. 8 Derel Brown defeated Nathan Link 6-2 at 149 lbs. Pitt-Johnstown answered in a big way at 157 lbs. Lundgren pinned Davis Bagwell at 6:55 to push the lead to 13-6. A major decision at 165 lbs. and a decision at 174 lbs. by the Wolves knotted then score at 13. No. 6 Sean Byrnes earned an 11-3 win over Joel Paolo (Weirton, WV) at 165 lbs., and No. 7 Travis Sheehy scored an 8-2 win over Shirey. Lantz' escape late in the second rideout period gave him a 5-4 win over No. 7 Mitch Brown and put the Mountain Cats back in front 16-13 with two matches remaining. Newberry battled back again to take their first lead of the night on Karl Reed's pin over Moore at 6:30 and secured the win with No. 4-ranked Jake Elkins' fall of Josh Krupa (Bedford, Pa.) at 4:48 in the heavyweight bout.
