Lady Cats Suffer 70-58 Loss at Lock Haven

Lock Haven University used a 21-3 first half run to build an 11-point halftime lead en route to handing the Lady Cats a 70-58 road loss on Friday.  Nicole Carman scored 15 points, and Jasmine Harper added 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Pitt-Johnstown, which slipped to 5-7.
 
Six early points from Carman gave the Lady Cats a 12-7 lead five minutes into the game, but Lock Haven answered with a 21-3 run over the next 7:44 to build a 13 point advantage of its own.
 
Hanna Gildea's 3-pointer knotted it at 12, before Emily Daugherty connected on a pair of free-throws with just over seven minutes left in the half to put the Lady Eagles in front, 28-15.
 
Pitt-Johnstown countered with eight straight points, capped by two Leah Hansen free-throws 1:14 later, to cut the deficit to 28-23, but Lock Haven outscored the Lady Cats 10-4 over the last 5:50 to take a 38-27 lead into the halftime break on Marrysa Moyer's late jumper.
 
The Lady Eagles kept the pressure on and extended its 11-point halftime lead to 17 at 50-33 on a Moyer 3-pointer, followed by Lysa Mealing's basket in the paint at the 15:16 mark of the second half.
 
Back-to-back buckets by Harper got Pitt-Johnstown to within 11 at 54-43 with 11:19 to play, Lock Haven rebuilt its advantage back up to 15 with 7:36 to play.
 
The Lady Cats battled back again.  Carman accounted for seven straight Lady Cat points to narrow the gap to 62-46 with just over four minutes remaining.
 
However, that was as close at Pitt-Johnstown could get.
 
Carman's 15 points and five rebounds and Harper's 14 points and nine rebounds paced Pitt-Johnstown.  Rachel Johnson grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, while Kelsey Sleighter, Leah Hansen, and Jamie Tabon all chipped in six points in the loss.
 
With her 15 rebounds Johnson moved to into 22nd-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 525.  Johnson is seven rebounds shy of LuAnn Ketter (1980-84) for 21st place on the list.
 
Pitt-Johnstown struggled to shoot the ball, finishing the game at just 29.5% (18-61), including just 1-21 from 3-point range.  The Lady Cats were also 21-26 from the free-throw line.  Lock Haven, which held a 55-45 advantage in rebounds, shot 34.2% (26-76) from the floor, 3-10 from behind the 3-point line, and 15-23 from the charity stripe.
 
Moyer's 12 points and game-high 16 rebounds led the Lady Eagles.  Daugherty added 12 points and Gildea had 10 points for Lock Haven, which broke a nine-game losing streak and improved to 2-9.
 
The Lady Cats play at Bloomsburg University on Saturday, before hosting a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday in the Sports Center.  The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
