For the second time in as many days, the Lady Cat basketball team was forced to play overtime. However, unlike last night's loss, Pitt-Johnstown got a lay-up from
Dominique Smith as time expired in the extra period that lifted the Lady Cats to a 98-96 victory over Bluefield State (WV) College in Saturday's final round of the Davis & Elkins Classic. Pitt-Johnstown evened its record at 1-1.

After
Kelsey Sleighter and
Nicole Carman combined to hit four straight free-throws to put the Lady Cats back in front late in the overtime, Bluefield State knotted the score at 96 on a Charity Harris basket with 19 seconds left. Smith then followed with a lay-up at the buzzer to give Pitt-Johnstown the two-point win.

Bluefield State opened-up a 22-12 lead midway through the first half, before the Lady Cats answered with a 15-4 run, capped by an
Olivia Rizzo basket and a free-throw from Sleighter to go in front by one.

Sleighter's 3-pointer with just under two minutes left made it 35-32, but the Big Blues outscored Pitt-Johnstown 8-2 the rest of the way to take a 40-37 halftime advantage.

Another bucket from Harris 11 minutes into the second half helped Bluefield State rebuild its lead back to nine at 63-54.

Bluefield State maintained the lead and held an 80-73 advantage with 2:28 to play, before the Lady Cats closed out the game on a 9-2 run to force overtime.Â
Jasmine Harper's short jumper narrowed the gap to two with 1:02 left, and two more of Harper's game-high 29 points as time expired in regulation sent the game to an extra period.

Harper's 29 points and seven rebounds paced five Lady Cats who scored in double figures. Sleighter had 20 points and six assists, while Carman had 17 points and 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double.Â
Kayla DeCriscio hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points, and Smith had 12 points and six assists for Pitt-Johnstown.

Pitt-Johnstown, which was able to overcome 60.9% shooting from the Big Blues, shot 45.7% from the field and connected on 27 of their 31 free-throws. Bluefield State was just 8-11 from the charity stripe.

Charity Harris had 25 points, and Tenika Jackson added 23 points to lead six Bluefield State players who scored in double-figures.

With the loss, the Big Blues slipped to 1-1 to start the year.
The Lady Cats will make their 2014-15 home debut against Clarion on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. as part of a PSAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats, before traveling to Slippery Rock for another conference game on Saturday.Â
