Lady Cats Suffer 82-67 Loss at East Stroudsburg

2383Leah Hansen scored a game-high 17 points off the bench, but East Stroudsburg erased an eight-point second half deficit with a 21-8 run and dealt the Lady Cats an 82-67 PSAC Crossover loss, Saturday evening in East Stroudsburg.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC Western Division.
 
East Stroudsburg scored the first five points and raced out to a 15-4 lead on Rachel Falkowski's jumper 4:31 into the game.
 
Pitt-Johnstown scored the next seven, capped by an Olivia McCabe basket in the paint, to cut it 15-11, but the Warriors doubled-up the Lady Cats 12-6 over the next four minutes to rebuild the lead to 27-17 on Melissa Ponders' 3-pointer just past the halfway point of the first half.
 
Pitt-Johnstown went on to outscore East Stroudsburg 20-8 over the final 9:25 to take a two-point halftime advantage.  Two Hansen free-throws got the Lady Cats to within one, before Pitt-Johnstown took its first lead of the evening at 33-32 on Nicole Carman's bucket at 1:50.  Kelsey Sleighter then followed with another basket to put the Lady Cats in front, 35-32.
 
The Warriors answered right back to tie it on Howard's 3-pointer, but Hansen's lay-up with five seconds left gave Pitt-Johnstown a 37-35 lead at the break.
 
Sleighter's 3-pointer to open the second and two baskets from Agnese Aramina extended the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 46-38.
 
East Stroudsburg scored the next seven points to ignite a 21-8 run, closed out by Tyeca Reviere's basket at 9:09, that put the Warriors back on top 59-54.
 
Hansen's 3-pointer tied it at 59, but East Stroudsburg pushed it back out to seven on Andrea Veres' bucket with 6:16 to play.
 
The Lady Cats never got closer than four, and the Warriors pulled away late for the 15-point victory.
 
Hansen led all scorers with 17 points, while Sleighter had 13 points for Pitt-Johnstown to go over the 900-point mark for her career.  Harper added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Carman and McCabe each scored seven points in the loss.
 
Nicole Carman currently ranks 29th on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,046 points and 20th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Rebounding List with 582.  Jasmine Harper ranks 30th on the all-time rebounding list with 463 rebounds.
 
Ryann Fiascki had 16 points and Jessica Martin collected 15 points and seven rebounds to lead four Warriors who scored in double figures and help East Stroudsburg improved to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC East.
 
The Lady Cats travel to PSAC Crossover games at West Chester on January 3 and Cheyney on January 4, before returning home to host a conference crossover doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Millersville on January 7.  The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center, followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
