Pitt-Johnstown got a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds from
Jasmine Harper and used 13-1 second half run to build nine-point lead on its way to a 78-67 PSAC victory over Seton Hill University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference-play.
After a sloppy start by both teams,
Kayla DeCriscio's 3-pointer broke a 6-6 tie to start an 11-3 Lady Cat run that was capped by Harper's lay-up at the 10-minute mark to put Pitt-Johnstown in front 17-11.
Meghan Mastroianni's basket two minutes later got Seton Hill to within three, but
Kelsey Sleighter and DeCriscio connected on 3-pointers to push the Lady Cat lead back out to 28-21 at 5:12.
The Griffins came right back and outscored Pitt-Johnstown 8-0 over the next two minutes to retake the lead 29-28 on a basket from Chelsea Apke and four straight Lindsey Misfud free-throws.
However, two free-throws from
Leah Hansen and two more from Harper with 25 seconds left gave Pitt-Johnstown a 35-32 halftime advantage.
Dominique Smith's 3-pointer three minutes into the second half extended the Lady Cat lead to 44-38, before Seton Hill regained the 52-49 on a Jenna Kaufman with just over 12 minutes to play.
Pitt-Johnstown followed with a 13-1 run to rebuilt its lead to nine. Two more points from Harper in the paint closed out 11 consecutive Lady Cat points, before
Olivia Rizzo's free-throws gave Pitt-Johnstown a 62-53 lead with seven minutes to go.
Pitt-Johnstown still held a nine-point lead with under four minutes left and never let the Griffins any closer than five the rest of the way.
Harper finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Sleighter scored 16 points and dished out four assists. The Lady Cats also got 10 points and nine rebounds from
Nicole Carman, nine points and seven rebounds from Rizzo, and nine points on three 3-pointers from DeCriscio in the victory.
Nicole Carman currently ranks 33
rd on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,020 points. She is 15 points away from Deb Deaner (1975-79) for 32
nd on the list. In addition, she grabbed nine rebounds and ranks 20
th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Rebounding List with 567.
The Lady Cats shot 41.4% (24-58) from the field and 9-26 from 3-point range. Pitt-Johnstown also made 21-27 from the free-throw line. The Griffins shot 44.6% (25-56) from the floor, 4-13 from behind the 3-point line, and 13-22 from the charity stripe.
Apke had 16 points and six rebounds to lead three Griffins who scored in double figures. Kelly Brennan added 12 points and Mastroianni finished with 11 points and six rebounds for Seton Hill, which fell to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats will break for Finals Week, before hosting PSAC Crossover double headers with the Mountain Cats against Lock Haven University on December 16 and Bloomsburg University on December 17. Both doubleheaders will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
