Fifth-ranked Gannon University opened-up a 16-point halftime lead on its way to dealing the Lady Cats a, 71-50, PSAC Western Division loss on Saturday's Senior Day in the Sports Center.Â
Nicole Carman scored 12 points, and
Kelsey Sleighter added 11 points for Pitt-Johnstown, which dropped to 9-16 overall and 6-9 in the conference.

Pitt-Johnstown kept it close early. After Sleighter connected for a 3-pointer that gave the Lady Cats their only lead of the day, Gannon was able to open up a seven-point advantage on two of Jen Papich's 16 first half points.

Leah Hansen free-throws five minutes in cut it to 12-9, but the Golden Knights outscored Pitt-Johnstown 27-14 the rest of the way to build a 16-point halftime advantage.

A lay-up by Morgan Neighbors at 8:20 made it an11-point game, before Amanda Berchtold's basket increased it to 35-20 with 3:21 to play in the half.

Pitt-Johnstown got a bucket from Carman that cut the deficit to 13, but Kelley Sunberg knocked down a short jumper as time expired to give Gannon a 39-23 halftime lead.

The Golden Knights never looked back. Nettie Blake hit two free-throws at the midway point of the second half the pushed the lead to 23, before back-to-back baskets by Johnson got the Lady Cats to back within 19 with 5:28 to play.

However, the Golden Knights built the lead to as many as 27 with 2:28 remaining before coasting to the 21-point victory.

Along with Carman and Sleighter, Johnson finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, while
Jasmine Harper scored seven points, and Stephenson tallied six points to lead Pitt-Johnstown.

Johnson is in 18
th-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 584, while Carman ranks 29
th on the rebounding list with 473.

The Lady Cats were held to just 32.7% (17-52) shooting from the field, including just 5-24 from 3-point range. Pitt-Johnstown also hit 11-166 from the free-throw line. Gannon, which dominated the glass 44-26, shot 46.8% (29-62) from the floor, 2-5 from behind the 3-point line, and 11-14 from the charity stripe.

Papich led all scorers with her 16 first half points. Blake had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Lanice Saunders chipped-in 10 points off the bench to help the Golden Knights improved to 25-2 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC West.

The Lady Cats close out the regular season at Mercyhurst University on Wednesday, before opening the 2014 PSAC Tournament against an opponent and at a site to be determined.
