After suffering a 10-8 loss in Sunday's opener at Concord (WV) University, the Mountain Cats used a seven-run sixth inning to erase a three-run deficit to earn the split with a 13-8 win in game two.
Dillon Boyer had seven hits and four RBI in the doubleheader to lead Pitt-Johnstown, now 1-5.
In the opener,
Nate Negri went 4-for-4 and
Kyle Morrow drove in four runs, but Concord scored six runs in the sixth inning to build a 10-2 lead and held off the Mountain Cats, 10-8.
Negri collected four singles and had two RBI, while Boyer had three hits and a pair of RBI to lead the Mountain Cats. Morrow went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI, and
Ernesto Rizzitano added two more of Pitt-Johnstown's 15 hits.
Derek Younker surrendered four runs (3 earned) on nine hits over the first four innings to suffer the loss and drop to 0-2.
In the nightcap, Concord opened-up up a 6-2 lead after five innings, but Pitt-Johnstown struck for seven runs in the sixth, and went on to defeat the Mountain Lions, 13-8.
Pitt-Johnstown tacked on 17 more hits in game two. Boyer was 4-for-4 with two more RBI, and
Jake Stern finished with five hits and five RBI. Negri also had three hits and drove in three while,
Brett Marabito had two hits and scored two runs for the Mountain Cats.
Brantley Rice picked-up the victory in relief of starter
Nate Pope. Rice tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Pope gave up six runs on nine hits in three innings as the starter.
With the split, Concord is now 3-3 on the year.
