Baseball Ends Spring Trip With Win Over Southern Conn. State

Jake Stern and Matt McGhee each had three hits and drove in two to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-5 victory over Southern Connecticut State University to close out the Spring Trip, Friday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Fla.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 5-9 on the season.
 
Stern and McGhee each went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.  Ernesto Rizzitano added three hits and drove in a run, and Mike Palkovitz had two hits and an RBI in the win.
 
John Fees pitched the first five innings to earn the victory and improve to 1-4.  Fees allowed two runs on four hits.  He walk one and struck out nine.
 
Ryan Socol pitched two scoreless innings and fanned two to pick-up his first save of the season.
 
The Mountain Cats travel to Shepherd (WV) University for a non-conference game on Wednesday, before opening the PSAC schedule with a doubleheader against Seton Hill University on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
