Baseball Drops PSAC Doubleheader at Seton Hill

After splitting a pair of games on Friday, the Mountain Cats traveled to Greensburg on Saturday to finish the four-game PSAC series, but the Griffins used strong pitching on their way to sweeping Pitt-Johnstown, 6-1 and 5-1.  Kyle Morrow belted a solo homer for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 6-13 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC Western  Division.
 
In game one, Seton Hill scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Chris Miller and Cody Herold's two-run doubles, and went on to the 6-1 victory.
 
Morrow had two hits, including a seventh inning home run, while Jake Stern and Ernesto Rizzitano each singled for the Mountain Cats.
 
Ryan Bills took the loss and fell to 0-1.  Bills allowed six runs on eight hits over the first five innings, but just three of the runs were earned.  Bills also walked one and struck out two.
 
Along with Miller's two RBI, Herold had two hits and drove in a pair for the Grifffins.
 
Seton Hill starter Brad Schnelle held Pitt-Johnstown to just one run on four hits in a complete-game effort to improve to 2-1.
 
In the nightcap, Seton Hill scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth on its way to completing the sweep with the 5-1 victory.
 
After falling behind 3-0, Pitt-Johnstown answered with a run in the sixth.  Brett Marabito doubled to lead off the inning, and Rizzitano followed with an RBI single to right center.
 
However, Miller's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Griffins two more insurance runs and set the final at 5-1.
 
Marabito doubled, and Stern and Rizzitano had a base hit each for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Nate Pope suffered the loss for the Mountain Cats and slipped to 0-3 after allowing three runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.  Ryan Socol pitched the final 1.2 innings and surrendered two unearned runs on two hits.
 
Mike Bittel earned the win for the Griffins.  Bittel held Pitt-Johnstown to one run on three hits over the first six innings.
 
With the sweep, Seton Hill improved to 14-9 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels Lock Haven University for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, before hosting Clarion University for a PSAC doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
