Mountain Cats Sweep IUP 2-0 and 5-1 to Open PSAC Series

Derek Younker and John Fees each tossed complete games to lead the Mountain Cats to a 2-0 and 5-1 PSAC Western Division doubleheader of Indiana University (PA), Friday afternoon at Point Stadium.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 13-19 overall and 8-8 in conference-play.
 
In game one, the Mountain Cats loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth and were able to scratch out the games only two runs.
 
Matt McMillen started the Pitt-Johnstown fifth with an infield hit.  Dillon Boyer walked forcing IUP to replace starting pitcher Demetrius Christofes with Zach Chinchilla.  Brett Marabito greeted Chinchilla with a bunt base hit to load the bases, and Ernesto Rizzitano followed with a single through the left side that chased McMillen home from third with the game's first run.  Then, with one out, Jake Stern earned a bases load walk that scored Marabito to set the final at 2-0.
 
Derek younker did the rest for the Mountain Cats on the mound with a complete-game shutout to improve to 5-3.  He scattered six hits, didn't allow a walk, and fanned three.
 
Marabito went 2-for-4 with a run, while Kyle Morrow, Rizzitano, and McMillen had the five Pitt-Johnstown hits.
 
In game two, the Mountain Cats broke open a one-run game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory.
 
Holding on to a 2-1 lead in the sixth, Pitt-Johnstown managed three runs on just two hits, including a sacrifice fly from McMillen and a run-producing base hit from Boyer.
 
Marabito tripled and singled, while Jake Stern added a pair of hits for the Mountain Cats.
 
Fees raised his record to 4-5 after holding the Crimson Hawks to one unearned run on five hits.  Fees also struck out seven and did not allow a walk.
 
With the losses, IUP fell to 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the PSAC West.
 
Pitt-Johnstown before travels to Indiana to complete the four-game PSAC series against IUP on Saturday, before hosting California (PA) for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
