#19 Wrestlers Down Wheeling Jesuit 28-6 For Seventh Straight Win

2458Nineteenth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown won nine of the 10 bouts, including a major decision by Evan Link to open the match, on their way to their seventh straight victory with 28-6 victory at Super Region I sixth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, on Friday.  The Mountain Cats improved to 8-1 on the year.
 
Link got the Mountain Cats started fast.  Link used a late takedown and back points to score a 14-3 major decision over Dustin Warner, before Corey Bush defeated Nolan Whitely, 8-3, at 133 lbs.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, also ranked fourth in the region, kept it going with decision wins at 141 lbs. and 149 lbs.  Sixth-ranked Sam Hanau shut out Preston Bowshier, 7-0, and Cole Landowski built a 5-1 third period advantage and went on to defeat Skyler Terrell, 8-5, to increase the Mountain Cat lead to 13-0.
 
Wheeling Jesuit answered quickly to cut it to 13-6 when Dominick Nania pinned Kevin Synan in just 16 seconds.
 
However, Pitt-Johnstown bounced right back and won the final five bouts to put the match away.  Boe Bonzo upended Reyse Wallbrown, the fifth-ranked wrestlers in the region at 165 lbs., 7-1, and John Blankenship, ranked third in the region, dealt Sawyer Leppla, ranked fifth in the region, a 3-1 loss at 174 lbs. to increase the lead to 19-6.
 
Then, at 184 lbs., Adam Nickelson put Pitt-Johnstown in front 22-9 and secured the Mountain Cat victory with an 11-7 decision over Ryan Winslow.
 
Forest Tuttle ran out to a 7-1 first period lead and went on to down Maxwell Lacey, 13-6 at 197 lbs., and D.J. Sims closed it out with a 5-2 decision over Corey Siegfried at 285 lbs. to set the final at 28-6.
 
With the loss, the Cardinals, who had won six of the last seven matches entering the night, slipped to 8-3.
 
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host Lake Erie (OH) on Friday at 7 p.m. and a tri-match with Ohio Valley (WV) and Tiffin (OH) on February 7 starting at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
