Luke Williams belted a solo homer in the opener, and
Jake Stern drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap, but it wasn't enough, as Kutztown swept the Mountain Cats 5-1 and 8-3, Saturday night in Wilson, N.C. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 0-10.

Along with Williams' solo blast in game one,
Nate Negri and Stern each doubled for the Mountain Cats.

Nate Pope pitched the first five innings and allowed four unearned runs on three hits over the first five innings to fall to 0-4. Pope also walked three and struck out eight for Pitt-Johnstown.

In game two, Kutztown broke open a 3-3 game with five runs in the top of the seventh inning off of Mountain Cat reliever
Ryan Socol to complete the sweep with an 8-3 victory.

Brantley Rice got the start on the mound for Pitt-Johnstown and surrendered three runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Rice walked two and fanned six in the no-decision.

Stern drove in two runs on a pair sacrifice flies, and Negri added an RBI single for the Mountain Cats.

The Mountain Cats will play single games against Kutztown and Clarion on Sunday and a doubleheader against East Stroudsburg on Monday to wrap-up the trip to North Carolina, before opening conference-play with a doubleheader against Gannon on Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.Â
