Mountain Cats Suffer 66-60 PSAC Loss at East Stroudsburg

Leahey finished with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds, but Ryan Krawczeniuk's 3-pointer with 1:34 left gave East Stroudsburg the lead for good and lifted the Warriors to a 66-60 PSAC Crossover victory over the Mountain Cats, Sunday afternoon in East Stroudsburg.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC Western division.
 
The Mountain cats started fast and ran out to a double-digit lead nine minutes into the game.  Leahey and Isaac Vescovi combine for Pitt-Johnstown first nine points, and Jake Laravie scored in the paint to put the Mountain Cats up 11-5.  Josh Wise then hit a pair of 3-pointers, and Leahey dropped in two more baskets to increase it to 21-10 at 11:20.
 
East Stroudsburg cut it to seven on Rasheed Moore's bucket at 4:41, but three more of Leahey's 15 first half points pushed it back out to 10 at 34-24.
 
The Warriors bounced back with the final six points of the half, including Moore's lay-up on East Stroudsburg's last possession, to narrow it to 34-30 at the break.
 
Moore's 3-pointer top open the second half increased the East Stroudsburg run to 9-0 and cut it to 34-33, before 3-pointers by Dale Clancy and Laravie pushed it back to eight at 45-37 at 13:37.
 
East Stroudsburg kept hanging around and narrowed it to one on Quindell Brice's basket, then took its first lead of the day on a Ralik Wise lay-up with 6:13 left.
 
The Warriors took the lead for good on Krawczeniuk's 3-pointer with 1:34 to play, and Kitt Najee Walls and Moore combine to hit four straight free-throws in the final 21 seconds to seal the six-point victory.
 
Leahey led all scorers with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Vescovi added nine points and nine rebounds for the Mountain Cats.  Wise has nine points, and Clancy finished with seven points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Laravie also had five points and five rebounds.
 
Leahey moved into 19th-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,122 points.  Leahey also stands in fifth-place on the all-time 3-point field goals list with 181.
 
Pitt-Johnstown shot 40.0% (24-60) from the field and 7-26 from 3-point range.  The Mountain Cats only shot nine free-throws and made five.  East Stroudsburg shot 42.1% (24-57) from the floor, 6-21 from behind the 3-point line, and 12-14 from the charity stripe.
 
Moore had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Walls had 14 points and six rebounds to help the Warriors improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East.
 
The Mountain Cats travel to the IUP Classic on Friday and Saturday, before hosting PSAC doubleheaders with the Lady Cats against Kutztown on December 3 and Mansfield on December 4.  The women's games will tip-off at 1 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.
