Victoria Moreland scored a career-high 23 points and
Jamie Tabon had 17 points to help the Lady Cats build an eight-point third quarter lead, but Kutztown University answered with a 10-0 run to take a lead it would never give up on its way to an 81-77 PSAC Crossover victory over Pitt-Johnstown, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Â The Lady Cats slipped to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC Western Division.

Along with Moreland's 23 points, Pitt-Johnstown also got 17 points and 10 rebounds from
Olivia McCabe and 17 points and seven rebounds from Tabon.Â
Laurel O'Barto had eight points and a game-high nine assists, and
Nicole Corcoran scored six points and grabbed four rebounds.

Sierra Taylor's lay-up four minutes into the game gave Kutztown a 10-7 advantage, before the Lady Cats got a 3-pointer from Corcoran and a bucket from McCabe to close out the first quarter that put Pitt-Johnston in front by one.

Pitt-Johnstown got another basket from McCabe with 2:34 left in the half that made it 31-27. Kutztown narrowed it to two a minute later on Kelsey Watson's jumper, but McCabe connected on a pair of free-throws with no time left on the clock to put the Lady Cats up 32-29 at the break.

Two Moreland free-throws at the 7:13 mark of the third quarter extended the lead to five, before the Lady Cats took their largest lead of the day at 47-39 on Tabon's lay-up at 3:47.

However, Kutztown answered with the 10-0 run over the next three minutes to regain the lead for good. A basket from Alex Heck tied it a 47, and Jenna Altomare's jumper with 41 seconds remaining in the quarter made it 49-47.

The Golden Bears built their lead to eight on four occasions, with the last coming on Altomare's 3-pointer with 2:08 to play, and went on to make seven of eight from the free-throw line in the final 36 seconds to hold on for the win.

Pitt-Johnstown shot 44.4% (28-63) from the field, 10-27 from 3-point range, and 11-16 from the free-throw line. Kutztown ended the day shooting 41.0% (25-61) from the floor and 4-9 from behind the 3-point line. The Golden Bears also connected on 27-35 from the charity stripe.

Heck finished with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Altomare added 22 points to lead four Kutztown players who scored in double figures and help the golden Bears improve to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC East.

Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Mansfield on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to non-conference games at the University of Charleston (WV) on Wednesday at Ohio Valley (WV) on Thursday.
