Mason Prickett hit a 3-run homerun, and the Mountain Cat baseball team was able to hold off a late Bloomsburg University rally to earn an 8-7 non-conference win over the Huskies, Sunday morning in Williamston, N.C. Pitt-Johnstown made it two straight wins and improved to 2-3.
Prickett's 3-run blast in the sixth put the Mountain Cats in front 6-0, before Bloomsburg answered with four runs over the next two innings to narrow it to 6-4.
The Mountain Cats came right with two more runs in the top of the ninth to make it 8-4. The Huskies scored three in the bottom of the frame to get to within one, but Pitt-Johnstown's
Nathan Bearer was able to work out of the jam to preserve the win and pick-up his first save of the year.
Prickett went 2-for-3 with the 3-run homerun and two runs scored, while
Nate Negri and
Jake Stern each had two hits for the Mountain Cats.Â
Luke Williams had a hit and drove in a pair, and
Dillon Boyer also singled and had one RBI.
Brantley Rice (1-0) started and got the victory for Pitt-Johnstown after holding Bloomsburg scoreless on four hits over the first six innings.
With the loss, the Huskies slipped to 1-2.
The Mountain Cats travel to Concord (WV) University for a 3-game none-conference series over the weekend, before hosting East Stroudsburg for a four-game non-conference series on March 5 and 6 at Point Stadium.Â
