Box Score Jake Stern and
Luke Williams each belted homeruns to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 12-5 non-conference victory over Fairmont State (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon at Point Stadium. The Mountain Cats made it three straight wins and improved to 5-7.
After scoring four runs in the first inning, Williams led off the Mountain Cat third inning with a solo blast, before Stern connected for a two-run shot in the sixth to put Pitt-Johnstown in front, 9-2.
The Mountain Cats added three more runs in the eighth on RBI singles from Stern, Williams, and
Joe Gagliardi to set the final at 12-5.
Williams went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and three runs, while Gagliardi added three hits, including a double and two RBI to lead Pitt-Johnstown. Stern homered and singled and drove in three.
Nate Negri had two hits and an RBI, and
Ernesto Rizzitano collected two hits.
Brad Coleman picked-up the win in relief of starter
Ken Gault. Coleman pitched two scoreless inning and held the Fighting Falcons to just one hit. Gault pitched the first four innings and allowed two runs (1 earned) on five hits.
With the loss, Fairmont State slipped to 7-2.
The Mountain Cats will host a non-conference doubleheader Shippensburg University on Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium, before traveling to Shippensburg for a nine-inning game on Saturday.
