Luke Williams and
Luke Smeltz each connected for homeruns to help Pitt-Johnstown come away with a PSAC Western Division doubleheader split against California (PA), Friday evening at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa. After dropping the opener, 7-5, Pitt-Johnstown earned a 9-2 victory in game tw0 to improved to 17-26 overall and 10-16 in the PSAC West.

In game one, California (PA) jumped on Mountain Cat starter
Shane Supanick for six runs in the second inning and held off Pitt-Johnstown, 7-5.

After falling behind 7-0 after three innings, the Mountain Cats got RBI singles from
Dylan Conrad and
Devon Walker in the fourth inning, before cutting it to 7-4 with two more runs in the sixth.

Williams then led off the Pitt-Johnstown top of the seventh with a solo homerun to center, but Matt Carter was able to get the final three outs to record his fifth save of the year for the Vulcans.

Ernesto Rizzitano and Williams each had two hits and an RBI for the Mountain Cats, while Conrad drove in a pair, and
Sean Sleigh singled and doubled.

Supanick took the loss and slipped to 3-2 after surrendering six runs on seven hits in two innings.Â
Trentin Martin pitched the final four innings for Pitt-Johnstown and held California (PA) scoreless on just one hit.

Danny McGrath had two hits and two RBI, and Kristian Webb had two hits and drove in one for the Vulcans.

In the nightcap, Smeltz belted a three-run homerun to help Pitt-Johnstown build a 7-1 lead in the fifth inning, and the Mountain Cats got strong pitching from
Nathan Bearer and
Ty Treaster to earn the split with the 9-2 win.

Luke Smeltz's three-run homer in the top of the third put the Mountain Cats in front, before Pitt-Johnstown added two more in the fourth to increase it to 5-0.

California (PA) got a run back in the fourth when McGrath scored from third on Bearer's balk, but Pitt-Johnstown tacked on two more in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Smeltz went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI, and Walker had two hits. The Mountain Cats also got two RBI from
Derek Cook.

Bearer earned the win and improved to 2-1 after holding California (PA) to two runs on five hits over the first five innings. Bearer also walked one and fanned five. Treaster didn't allow a run or a hit in two innings of work.

With the split, the Vulcans are now 25-19 overall and 16-10 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats will celebrate Senior Day and conclude the 2016 season with PSAC Western Division doubleheader against California (PA) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Point Stadium.
