Joe Gagliardi collected five hits and drove in five, and
Brett Hileman belted his third homerun of the year, as Pitt-Johnstown completed a season-opening sweep over Fairmont State (WV) University with 4-2 and 22-14 victories, Sunday afternoon in Mooresville, NC. The Mountain Cats are now 4-0.
In the opener, Gagliardi went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and
Scott Thompson had two hits, including a solo homerun.
Camden Hess picked up the win after holding Fairmont State scoreless on five hits over the first five innings. Hess also struck out four and didn't walked none.
The Mountain Cats completed the sweep with the 22-14 win in game two. Gagliardi added three more hits, including a double, and three RBI, and Hileman hit a two-run homer for his third homerun in Pitt-Johnstown first four games. The Mountain Cats also got three hits and a pair of RBI from
Dylan Kerstetter and two hits from
Tanner Cook.
Devon Walker pitched the first four innings to earn the win for Pitt-Johnstown. Walker surrendered one run on three hits, while striking out two and walking two.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Williamston, NC on Saturday and Sunday to take on Milersville and Bloomsburg and to Concord (WV) on February 25-26. The Mountain cats will make their 2017 home debut with a non-conference doubleheader against Lock Haven on March 8 at Point Stadium.
