No. 3 California (PA) Runs Away for 88-58 Win Over Lady Cats

3876Third-ranked California University (PA) used a 25-7 first half run to climb out to a 24-point lead and turned 28 Lady Cat turnovers into 42 points on its way to an 88-58 PSAC Western Division victory over Pitt-Johnstown, Wednesday night in California.  Olivia McCabe had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Laurel O'Barto added 10 points for Pitt-Johnstown, which fell to 7-19 overall and 3-17 in the PSAC West.
 
California (PA) opened-up a 10-0 lead, before Gabrielle Smith's lay-up midway through the first quarter got Pitt-Johnstown on the scoreboard.
 
The Lady Cats cut it to 14-8 on McCabe's lay-up and free-throw at 2:46, but the Vulcans closed out the quarter on an 11-5 spurt, including two of Miki Glenn's 11 first quarter points with four seconds left, to put California (PA) in front 25-13.
 
The Vulcans maintained the momentum and extended the run to 25-7 over the first four minutes of the second quarter to build the lead to 24.  Seairra Barrett's bucket increased it to 18, and baskets from Glenn and Precious Martin capped the run and gave California (PA) at 39-14 advantage with 6:19 left in the half.
 
Four straight points from McCabe got Pitt-Johnstown back to within 20, but the Vulcans outscored the Lady Cats, 8-1, the rest of the way to take a 47-20 lead at the break on two more points from Glenn.
 
3879Two more 3-pointers from Glenn got the Vulcan's lead out to 55-20 two minutes into the third quarter, and California (PA) never let Pitt-Johnstown get closer than 29 the rest of the way.
 
The Vulcans pushed the lead to as many as 41 at 77-36 on D.J. Hahn's jumper with 9:02 remaining in the game, and went on to the victory.
 
Along with McCabe and O'Barto, Pitt-Johnstown also got nine points and five rebounds from Victoria Moreland, six points from Alexis Hartwick, and five points from Maurina Nunn.
 
McCabe stands in 26th-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 522.
 
The Lady Cats shot 41.1% (23-56) from the field, 3-10 from 3-point range, and 18-25 from the free-throw line.  California (PA) ended the night shooting 44.6% (33-74) from the floor, 4-14 from behind the 3-point line, and 9-17 from the charity stripe.
 
Glenn poured in a game-high 28 points, and Barrett added 25 points and eight rebounds for the Vulcans, who made it 13 consecutive wins and improved to 24-1 overall and 18-1 in the PSAC West.
 
The Lady Cats travel to a PSAC game Seton Hill on Wednesday, before closing out the 2016-17 season with a Senior Day doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Slippery Rock on February 25 at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
