Jake Laravie made 11 three-pointers and dished out 10 assists without making a turnover to break a pair of Pitt-Johnstown single-game records and lead the Mountain Cats to a 100-85 PSAC Western Division victory over Edinboro University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Laravie's career-high 33 points and
Isaac Vescovi's career-high 26 points helped Pitt-Johnstown improve to 14-9 overall and 9-8 in the PSAC West.
Laravie made seven of his 11 3-pointers in the first half to break Pitt-Johnstown's previous record of 10 3-pointers in a game shared by Bill Luther (Dec. 5, 2012) and Jordan Miller (Dec. 5, 2009). He also dished out 10 assists of Pitt-Johnstown's single-game record 36 assists without a turnover.
Edinboro kept it close early, but Laravie's 3-pointer, followed by
A.J. Leahey's convention 3-point play and
Levi Masua's lay-up gave the Mountain Cats a 32-20 lead with 8:54 left in the half.
The Fighting Scots got a bucket from Chibunna Ukando at 3:53 to get the Fighting Scots back to within six, but Laravie hit two straight 3-pointers to give Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the half at 47-34.
Two of Jaymon Mason's game-high 40 points cut Edinboro's deficit to 10 at the break, before Mason connected on a 3-pointer at 14:58 of the second half to help the fighting Scots get to within four at 60-56.
However, it was all Pitt-Johnstown after that. Vescovi scored the next seven Mountain Cats points and 3-pointers from Laravie and
Dale Clancy got the lead back out to a dozen.
Laravie then tied the single-game 3-point record at 6:32, before his record-breaking 3-pointer with 1:34 to play gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the day at 98-79.
Laravie finished the day with 33 points on 11-14 shooting, including 11-13 from behind the 3-point line. He also dished out 10 assists, while Vescovi had 26 points on 11-14 shooting. Clancy collected 14 points and a game-high 11 assists, while Leahey chipped-in 13 points, five rebounds, and a career-high seven assists.
Leahey is currently eighth-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,446 points, fifth on the all-time rebounding list with 657, and in fourth on the all-time 3-point field goals list with 227.
With is 11 assists, Clancy stands in ninth-place on the Mountain Cats All-Time Assists List with 348.
Pitt-Johnstown shot a season-high 66.1% (39-59) from the floor and 17-30 from 3-point range. The Mountain Cats were also 5-6 from the free-throw line. Edinboro shot 54.2 (32-59) from the field, 8-18 from behind the 3-point line, and 13-15 from the charity stripe.
Along with Mason's game-high 40 points, Maceo Baston had 22 points and seven for the Fighting Scots, who fell to 6-14 overall and 4-12 in the PSAC West.
The Mountain Cats host PSAC doubleheaders with the Lady Cats against Indiana University (PA) on Wednesday, and Mercyhurst on Saturday.
