Olivia McCabe had a game-high 18 points and a career-high 22 rebounds, but Edinboro University turned a six point half lead into a 53-41 PSAC Western Division victory over the Lady Cats, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown suffered its fifth straight loss and dropped to 7-16 overall and 3-14 in the PSAC West.
The Lady Cats got off to a good start and opened-up a 14-8 lead after one quarter on McCabe's 3-pointer and a basket in the paint from
Nicole Olkosky.
Edinboro connected on seven straight free-throws in a 9-0 run to start the second quarter to retake the lead 17-14, but Pitt-Johnstown cut it to one on a bucket by
Jamie Tabon with 4:56 remaining in the half.
However, Michelle Jahn answered with a 3-pointer for the Fighting Scots and Katie Fischer's jumper at the buzzer put Edinboro in front 28-22.
The Lady Cats never got closer than five the rest of the way. Jontay Walton's lay-up seven minutes into the third quarter increased Edinboro's lead to 10, before another 3-pointer from Jahn extended it to 44-27 at the end of the quarter.
Nicole Johnson's basket with 5:50 left to play gave the Fighting Scots their largest lead of the day at 50-31, and Edinboro went on to the 12-point win.
McCabe's 18 points, 22 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks led the way for Pitt-Johnstown.
Victoria Moreland had seven points and four rebounds, and Tabon added six points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cats.
With her 22 rebounds, McCabe moved into 28
th-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 497.
Pitt-Johnstown, which held a 53-34 advantage in rebounding, was not able to overcome 32 turnovers and 29.3% (12-41) shooting from the field. The Lady Cats were also just 2-12 from 3-point range and 15-23 from the free-throw line.
Walton's 12 points and five rebounds paced three Edinboro players who scored in double figures. Jahn had 11 points, and Ciara Rosten collected 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Fighting Scots, who improved to 18-4 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC West.
The Lady Cats host PSAC doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against Indiana University (PA) on Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m., and Mercyhurst on Feb. 11 starting at 1 p.m.
