Olivia McCabe produced her season's ninth double-double Wednesday night with 20 points and 13 rebounds, but was not enough to overcome Indiana University (Pa.). Pitt-Johnstown fell to the Crimson Hawks at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center in Johnstown, 77-65 in PSAC West Division action.

The Crimson Hawks, who advanced to 17-5 overall, 15-3 in conference play, started the game with a 10-4 advantage after just over four minutes into the game. Megan Smith and Carolyn Appleby both produced four points for Indiana during the span.

The Lady Cats, who dropped to 7-17 overall, 3-15 in conference play, were able to cut away at their early deficit by scoring 12 of the next 20 points as a three point play from Jamie Tabon put the team within another score of the lead, 18-16 with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter.

Moments later, a jumper from Appleby with four seconds remaining gave IUP a 22-18 lead heading into the second period. The Crimson Hawks built on their advantage in the second by outscoring the Lady Cats 11-2 in the period's first three and a half minutes.

A layup in the paint by Smith, assisted by Appleby, put Indiana ahead 33-20 with 6:28 to go in the half. Their lead to did not drop under seven points as the Lady Cats were only able to make consecutive baskets once throughout the remainder of the half.

It was not until the the third quarter's last three minutes when Pitt-Johnstown was in reach of capturing its first lead of the game. Down 49-39, a block and layup from McCabe, an Indiana turnover and a three-pointer from Alexis Hartwick at 2:45 helped get the Lady Cats within five points of IUP, 49-44.
McCabe's 13 rebounds gives her a career total of 510 rebounds, which puts her in 27th place on the Lady Cat all-time rebounding list. She is now five boards back from Jody Billingsley (1990-94) for 26th place.

A layup from Laurel O'Barto at 1:48 after a turnover by Appleby cut the deficit to 51-48, but Appleby made up for her mistake by making a jumper 29 seconds later to put Indiana ahead 53-48 leading into the last ten minutes.

A pair of three-pointers and a layup stretched the Crimson Hawks lead to 61-51 after 48 seconds in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cats responded with eight unanswered points, a three-pointer from Hartwick and five points from McCabe, to cut the their deficit to 61-59 with 6:41 to go in the game. Hartwick led the game with four three-point field goals.

This was the closest Pitt-Johnstown to having the lead throughout the game as the Crimson Hawks answered with a 13-2 run, which lasted until there were 48 seconds left on the clock. At that point, Indiana had a 74-61 edge and proving to be the game clincher.

The Lady Cats are to next host Mercyhurst University Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. before traveling to California University (Pa.) Feb. 15 for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. Both games are to kick-off PSAC West Division doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats.
