After suffering an 18-13 loss in a slugfest that featured 37 hits in Saturday's first game of a PSAC doubleheader at California (PA), the Vulcans scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to complete the sweep with a 3-2 win. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 10-14 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC West.

In game one, California (PA) erupted for 11 runs in the fourth inning to build a 16-5 lead, then held off the Mountain Cats 18-13, despite an eight-run seventh inning from Pitt-Johnstown.

Dakotah Byers belted a grand slam in the Pitt-Johnstown seventh inning, while
Dillon Boyer went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a runs scored.Â
Mason Prickett had three hits,
Brett Hileman had two doubles and two RBI, and
Scott Lucas had two hits and drove in two. The Mountain Cats, who finished with 20 hits, also got two hits and two RBI from
Catcher Cumming, and two hits and two RBI from
Jack Shirk and
Dylan Kerstetter.

Nathan Bearer started and took the loss for the Mountain cats after allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

The Vulcans' first five hitters combined to account for 15 of the team's 17 hits, and 15 of the 17 RBI.

In the nightcap,
Tanner Cook's two-out RBI single in the Pitt-Johnstown sixth chased home
Evan Appleby to tie it at one, and
Jack Shirk followed three batters later with an infield single that scored Cook to put the Mountain Cats in front.

However, the Vulcans got a sacrifice fly from Levi Krause to knot it in the bottom of the sixth, before a Pitt-Johnstown throwing error gave the lead back to California (PA), 3-2.

Boyer went 3-for-4 and Hileman added two more hits for the Mountain Cats. Shirk and Cook also had a hit and an RBI for Pitt-Johnstown.

Trent Martin started and got a no-decision after holding California (PA) to just two runs on three hits in five-plus innings.Â
Dan Clark suffered the loss for the Mountain Cats and slipped to 1-1.

With the four-game conference sweep, California (PA) evened its record at 8-8 and began PSAC-play at 4-0.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Slippery Rock to open a four-game home-and-home PSAC series on Friday, before hosting a pair of conference games against The Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
