Baseball Suffers 14-10 Loss to Lock Haven in Home Opener

40574031Jack Shirk had three hits and three RBI, and Evan Appleby homered, but Lock Haven scored seven runs over the final three innings to earn a 14-10 victory over the Mountain Cats in Pitt-Johnstown's 2017 home opener, Wednesday afternoon at Point Stadium.  The Mountain Cats slipped to 8-7.
 
Shirk went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Brett Hileman and Joe Gagliardi each had two hits and drove in a run for Pitt-Johnstown.  Appleby homered had two RBI.
 
Matt Monko took the loss in relief in a game that the Mountain Cats used seven pitchers.  Monko gave up three runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.  Nate Bearer started and held Lock Haven scoreless on just one hit over the first two innings.
 
With the win, the Bald Eagles improved to 6-2.
 
Pitt-Johnstown's three-game non-conference series against Winston-Salem State (NC) on Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled due to weather.  The Mountain Cats will host a four-game non-conference series against East Stroudsburg on March 17-18 and a single game against West Liberty (WV) on March 21.
