Johnstown, PA

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
4048Slippery Rock used a six-run second inning in the opener and a seven-run second inning in the nightcap on its way to a 17-10 and 12-6 PSAC Western Division sweep over the Mountain Cats, Saturday afternoon at Point Stadium.  Brett Hileman belted a two-run home run for Pitt-Johnstown, which dropped to 10-16 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC West.

In game one, Slippery Rock opened up a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with four runs in its first at-bat. Dan Clark's bases loaded ground out scored Dillon Boyer and Scott Thompson followed with a two run double. Thompson then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

The Rock struck for six more in the top of the second off of Mountain Cat starter Brantley Rice.

Tyler Walters' two-run homer in the Slippery Rock fourth increased it to 10-4, before Pitt-Johnstown scored two in the bottom of the frame on Clark's fielder's choice RBI and a Slippery Rock throwing error.

However, Christian Porterfield's grand slam over the left field screen in the top of the fifth pushed the Rock's lead to 14-6.

After Slippery Rock made it 17-6, Hileman's two-run homerun down the right field line highlighted a four run Pitt-Johnstown sixth inning, but it wasn't enough.

Hileman doubled and drove in two, while Thompson doubled and had two RBI to lead Pitt-Johnstown.  The Mountain Cats also got two hits apiece from Jack Shirk and Mason Prickett and two RBI from Clark.

Rice took the loss and slipped to 2-2 after allowing 10 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits over the first four innings.

Walters was 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBI, and Porterfield homered and drove in six for Slippery Rock.

In game two, Slippery Rock got a three-run homer from Walters in a seven-run second inning, before Tanner Cook's single up the middle scored Joe Gagliardi and Evan Appleby to cut it to 7-2 after two innings.

Two more runs in The Rock's third inning made it 9-2, and Slippery Rock went on to compete the sweep with the 12-6 victory.

Boyer went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Tanner Cook singled, doubled and drove in three for Pitt-Johnstown.  The Mountain Cats also got two hits, including a double, and an RBI from Clark.

Brady Walker suffered the loss for Pitt-Johnstown and fell to 2-2.  Walker surrendered nine runs (7 earned) on 12 Slippery Rock hits in three innings.  Brad Coleman pitched three innings and held The Rock to just one run on one hit.

Walters added five more hits, including his second homer of the day, and drove in six more runs for Slippery Rock, which improved to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC West.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Slippery Rock on Monday to conclude the four-game home-and-home PSAC series, before hosting a pair of conference games against Gannon on Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Point Stadium.
