After dropping the opener of Monday's PSAC Western Division doubleheader at Slippery Rock,
Zach Zinn hit two home runs and drove in five and
Scott Thompson hit a solo homer in the nightcap to help Pitt-Johnstown pick-up its first conference victory with a 9-1 win. The Mountain Cats are now 11-17 overall and 1-7 in the PSAC West.

In Monday's opener, Pitt-Johnstown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when
Tanner Cook scored on
Dillon Boyer's ground out, but Tyler Walter's two-run home run in the bottom of the inning put slippery Rock right back in front.

Pitt-Johnstown came right back to retake the lead on
Dylan Conrad's two-run single in the fourth that chased home
Joe Gagliardi and
Evan Appleby.

However, The Rock scored seven more in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead to 9-3, before adding two more in the sixth on its way to the 11-5 win.

Jack Shirk singled, doubled and drove in one, while Conrad had a pair of RBI for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also got a hit and an RBI from Boyer and a double from Appleby.

Trent Martin allowed eight runs on six sits over the first 3 1/3 innings to suffer the loss and fall to 1-3.

In game two, Pitt-Johnstown opened-up a 5-0 lead in the third inning. Thompson's first inning RBI double made it 1-0, before Zinn belted a solo home run, and Shirk drove in Cook to make it 3-0 in the second inning.

The Mountain Cats added two more in the third on Thompson's solo homer and Zinn's RBI single, before breaking it open with four more in the seventh, highlighted by Zinn's three-run home run.

Zinn went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and five RBI, and Thompson had three hits, including a double and a home run, and two RBI. Gagliardi added two hits and an RBI, and Shirk singled and drove in one for Pitt-Johnstown.

Nathan Bearer tossed a complete-game for the Mountain Cats, holding The Rock to just one run on six hits. Bearer, who evened his record at 2-2, also struck out five and allowed just one walk.

With the split, Slippery Rock is now 15-6 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC West.

Pitt-Johnstown will a pair of conference games against Gannon on Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Point Stadium, before traveling Erie to complete the four-game series on Sunday.
