Scott Thompson belted a two-run home run, but the University of Charleston scored three runs in the fifth inning to erase a one-run deficit and hold on for a 7-5 victory in Saturday's opener of a non-conference doubleheader at Power Park in Charleston, W.Va. Pitt-Johnstown earned the split with a 4-2 win in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Mountain Cats are now 6-3.
In game one, Thompson's two-run homer in the second inning opened the scoring, but the Golden Eagles scored three run in each of the second and fifth innings to complete the comeback.
Along with Thompson,
Ben Foose had an RBI double, and
Colin Pasone went 2-for-3 for the Mountain Cats.
Foose took the loss in relief after allowing two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Braxton Roxby started for Pitt-Johnstown and surrendered five runs on seven hits over the first 4 1/3 innings.

In the nightcap,
Tyler Smith's RBI single and
Boston Bradley's sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh broke a 2-all tie and lifted Pitt-Johnstown to the 4-2 victory.
Smith had two hits and drove in a pair, while Pasone added two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Dylan Heid pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and held Charleston scoreless to pick up the win and even his record at 1-1.
Joel Colledge got the start and pitched the first 4 1/3 innings allowed just two runs on one hit.
The Mountain Cats will take on West Liberty (WV) University in a four-game non-conference series next weekend, before hosting a non-conference doubleheader against Shippensburg on March 15 at Point Stadium.
