After Friday's doubleheader at Slippery Rock was postponed due to weather, the Mountain Cat baseball team will now open it's four-game PSAC Western Division series with a doubleheader against The Rock on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
Head Coach Todd Williams, already Pitt-Johnstown's "winningest" baseball coach, comes into the weekend needing four victories to reach 500 for his career. The Mountain Cats look to bounce back after dropping 3-out-of-4 games to California (PA) last weekend. The Vulcans earned 4-2 and 8-4 wins in Washington, Pa. last Saturday, before taking Monday's opener, 8-5. Pitt-Johnstown won game four, 6-4, behind
Zach Zinn's solo homer and
Tyler Smith's three RBI.
Slippery Rock, under 34
th-year
Head Coach Jeff Messer, is 12-15 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC West after sweeping a pair of non-conference games against Mansfield on Tuesday. In the opener,
Joe Campagna and
Colin Cain each homered in an 11-6 win, before The Rock completed the sweep with a 9-4 win in the nightcap. Campagna had 2-run homer and five RBI. Slippery Rock also split a four-game PSAC series with Clarion last weekend.
Last season, Slippery Rock swept the four-game series against the Mountain Cats. On April 6, The Rock earned 9-7 and 7-4 victories, before completing the sweep with 7-3 and 8-7 wins on April 8.
Pitt-Johnstown will make-up Friday's doubleheader at Slippery Rock on Sunday or Monday, before traveling to Lock Haven for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. The Mountain Cats will then host a PSAC doubleheader against Gannon on Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
