A total of 68 Pitt-Johnstown athletes were named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athletes when this year's honors were released by the conference office on Tuesday.
The PSAC set a new record of scholar-athletes with 3,117 student-athletes from the league's 17 institutions being named to the list during the 2018-19 academic year.
In order to be eligible, the 2018-19 student-athletes maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 upon completion of the academic year.
The 3,117 scholar-athlete total marks 43% of the student-athlete population. Both of these numbers break previous records of 3,062 and 42% set one year ago. The league has now registered at least a 30% rate for 11 straight years.
Gannon paced the league for a third consecutive year while boasting a 56% scholar-athlete rate, while Seton Hill held a 54% mark. For the fifth consecutive year, Mercyhurst has the most scholar-athletes with 317, while Gannon is second with 284.
Overall, six institutions produced at least 200 scholar-athletes while seven institutions boasted a rate of 45% or higher.
