Justin Scally finished in a tie for 17th-place to lead the Pitt-Johnstown golfers at Monday and Tuesday's West Chester University Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational at Penn Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Cats finished seventh in the 13-team field.
IUP's Jackson Buccigruss shot 71 and 72 to win medalist honors and lead the Crimson Hawks to the team championship at +32, three shots better than West Chester and Goldey Beacom (DE) College, who tied for second-place.
Scally opened the tournament with a 78 on Monday, before shooting 76 on Wednesday to tie for 17th-place and lead Pitt-Johnstown with a 154.Â
Mario Battaglia (75, 81, 156), finished in a tie for 20th-plaxce, two strokes behind Scally, and
Brendan Villnave tied for 40th with an 83 abd a 79 (162). The Mountain Cats also got a tie for 49th-place from
Mitch Jeffe (83, 82, 165) and a tie for 52nd-place from
Sal Cerilli (79, 86, 167).
IUP closed out the tournament at +32 (600), three strokes ahead of the hosts and Goldey Beacom (+35, 603). Millersville (was fourth (+41, 609) and Shepherd (WV) was fifth (+55, 623). Pitt-Johnstown was seventh at +65 (633).
The Mountain Cats travel to the LeMoyne (NY) College NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Preview Tournament on Sunday and Monday and to the IUP Cecil Spadafora Invitational on April 18-19.
